The Venezuelan military leadership has issued a strong statement reaffirming its support for President Nicolás Maduro for the period 2025-2031, corresponding to his legitimate mandate.

The message, led by Defense Minister GJ Vladimir Padrino López, comes a few days before the beginning of a new presidential term and responds directly to statements made by opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia, who is in exile in the United States.

The military statement describes González Urrutia’s remarks as “insolent and shameless,” underlining the indignation of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) at what they consider an act of “despicable political activity.”

Padrino López criticizes not only the content of the video published by the opponent but also the timing of its release, which coincides with his arrival in the U.S., a country that high military officials accuse of being a “sponsor” of the Venezuelan opposition.

The statement does not spare reproaches toward González Urrutia, who is credited with promoting economic sanctions that, according to the military leadership, have seriously affected the Venezuelan people and the families of the soldiers themselves.

A highlight of the message is the announcement that on January 10, 2025, during a formal ceremony, the commitment to “Venezuelan democracy” will be ratified, recognizing Maduro as constitutional president.

This announcement emphasizes the military leadership’s intention to maintain its central role in national politics and reaffirms its loyalty to the president, whom it considers the Commander-in-Chief.
